Raw notes on creating passionate users

Raw notes from listening to Kathy Sierra’s talk on passionate users (either the one at SXSW or the one at Cusec).

  • Eric Kandel, Nobel Prize winner [Physiology/Medicine 2000], work on memory. Pictures + conversational tone (‘You’). Captures attention. [Blog post on this.]
  • Levels [of difficulty], ‘A series of regularly spaced traits’.
  • Tribe. T-shirt First Development. Stories, gossip, founders’ stories, user stories, easter eggs.
  • Nikon site. [Focuses on learning.] K2 skis, passionate skier → transfers to brand.
  • Jeff Hawkins [and Sandra Blakeslee] On Intelligence.
  • Challenge – flow – balance [ease/difficulty].
  • Learning + improvement – hi-res experiences – exploiting passions for something else. Getting users to talk about themselves.

The above was posted to my personal weblog on June 6, 2006. My name is Peter Lindberg and I am a thirtysomething software developer and dad living in Stockholm, Sweden. Here, you’ll find posts in English and Swedish about whatever happens to interest me for the moment.
