More on Abduction

More on abduction. Simon Winter kindly provided me with some pointers. He wrote that he first encountered it in the book Mind, Code and Context by linguist Talmy Givón, where it is explained as ‘the third mode of inference, that which Aristotle called “apagoge”, and which creates coherence.’ The translation of Aristotle’s term as abduction, he continues, is thought to have originated from C.S. Peirce.
