Summary of May, 2004
During May, 2004, I mostly wrote about imageability, cities, software architecture, enterprise architecture, Le Corbusier’s plans for Stockholm, and intellectual creativity.
At the beginning of the month, I was still reading Kevin Lynch’s fantastic The Image of the City:

Previous thoughts on the city-planning analogy in Enterprise Architecture, which often speaks about the inevitable heterogeneity of large IT environments, made me think about Jane Jacobs thoughts on diversity in cities as a critical factor of living neighborhoods. But the diversity that’s critical for cities is bad for software: “Software Use Zoning.”
Next, I read Italo Calvino’s Invisible Cities, and Bruce Chatwin’s The Songlines. I chose the latter because of references in The Image of the City to the Australian songlines.

I början av månaden läste jag en artikel i Dagens Nyheter som nämnde att Le Corbusier planerat “en omgestaltning av Stockholm”. Jag började forska i det och fann att han deltagit i en tävling i början av 1930-talet för ombyggnad av Klarakvarteren:

Jag skrev om TCO:s märkliga underkännande av 19 av 25 mobiltelefoner baserat på något de kallar “TCP-värdet”. Fick ingen egentlig klarhet i ärendet.
Sedan skrev jag en serie inlägg om “intellektuellt skapande”. Vissa former av skapande är sensuell/konkret, såsom skulptur, matlagning, måleri m.m., medan andra former, såsom författande och systemutveckling, är abstrakt/intellektuell. Jag hade (och har) en känsla av att detta är en avgörande skillnad.
