Children Skipping Seven When Counting

Anyone heard about this? When my 2.5 year old daughter counts to ten, she most often skips the number seven. She learned to count to ten about six months ago, and she’s definitely aware of the number seven. If I count with her, she says “seven” (or ”sju” as she doesn’t count in English yet).

From what my mother has told me, I also skipped the number seven, and I’ve heard about another child that also did, and in fact refused any knowledge of such a number. Three occurrences makes me wonder if this is something common and what’s the reason behind. Please drop me a note if you know anything about this.

The above was posted to my personal weblog on July 12, 2004. My name is Peter Lindberg and I am a thirtysomething software developer and dad living in Stockholm, Sweden. Here, you’ll find posts in English and Swedish about whatever happens to interest me for the moment.
