Feng Shui and the First Documented City Planning
The roots of feng shui are certainly ancient in China. It is likely that some geomantic considerations were responsible for the siting of the last capital of the Shang dynasty at Anyang, or at least the royal tombs to the north of the royal city. [...] With the establishment of the Zhou dynasty came the first documented city planning. The Zhou [...] were determinde to build a new capital in the center of their newly conquered lands. [...] The Classic of Documents describes the Grand Protector as laying out the city of Luo (present-day Luoyang) according to divinations that he performed on the site. This canonical pedigree has made the Grand Protector the patron saint of geomancers.
