Becoming one with my camera

After more than 2 500 pictures taken with my Nikon Coolpix 3100, which I bought two months ago, I’ve gotten to the point where I have a very solid feel for how it works in different conditions.

My previous camera was a first-generation non-digital Canon Ixus, and by the time I bought the Nikon, I knew exactly how to get it to take good pictures, despite it being a very simple camera with few features.

There’s a point when you have used your camera for quite some time, when you have gotten enough feedback from the photos taken, when it becomes an extension of yourself.

It’s not surprising that this happens quickly with a digital camera, but I think it’s quite remarkable that it happens, at all, with analog cameras. Especially for me, who usually waited a few weeks, sometimes months, before I got my exposed films developed, but still my brain was able to, somehow, ingest the feedback.

The above was posted to my personal weblog on September 3, 2003. My name is Peter Lindberg and I am a thirtysomething software developer and dad living in Stockholm, Sweden. Here, you’ll find posts in English and Swedish about whatever happens to interest me for the moment.
