Cory Doctorow writes: “let’s all go commit “contributory trade dress infringement” by taking pix in Starbucks this weekend,” inspired by this post of Larry Lessig’s, where he wrote, “I wonder what would happen if hundreds of people from around the country experimented this holiday weekend by taking pictures at their local Starbucks …”.

Now, there are no Starbuckses in Sweden, but (and this is a little spooky) exactly two years ago today, us Oopsians woke up in Pismo Beach (we went there because a PowerBook model was codenamed Pismo; the place itself is quite boring, although I will always remember it) and went to the nearest Starbucks to eat breakfast.

I don’t know if this is a Starbucks standard, but as you placed your order, they asked you for your name, so they could call it out as your coffee was ready after about 2 minutes. There were three or four people serving the order: one who took a cup and wrote the name on it, one who prepared the coffee, one who handed it to you (and shouted your name) and finally one person who took your money.

Anyway, as Svante (the blogging maven, whose first name is pronounced “Svuhnteh”) said his name, the Starbucks clerk asked, not without surprise, “Cervantes?” Of course, Svante couldn’t bear to correct him. As we got outside, Martin took this picture – which we hope will be accepted in this campaign, despite being two years old.
