Frank Patrick, commenting on a post by Laurent Bossavit: “If this guy is like most of today’s managers, he’ll probably shift from his initial “throughput world” perspective, focusing on the output of the system to a “cost world” perspective, with the result of seeing “wasted resources” that are best dealt with by removing from the system. That latter view is rooted in the erroneous assumption that an idle resource is a major waste. Goldratt, DeMarco, and other enlightened management thinkers recognize the need for slack or protective capacity in such a system.”
