Lawrence Lessig: Open Code and Open Societies

Lawrence Lessig (PDF): “I had proceeded [in selling code this line about how the code of the Net is a kind of law] on the assumption that real space would have something to teach cyber. But why not the other way around? Why wouldn’t the governance of the Net have something to teach real space? [...] What are the values in the Internet’s governance just now; and how would they translate? And does this tradition tell us something about the relationship between this growing movement of open source software, and the future of Net governance?”
