Jonas comments

Jonas comments on two of my posts – this – and this. He mentions two companies: a Swedish company that actually has “work-free Fridays” and 3M which has something called the “15 percent rule”. Jonas writes that employees tend to use their free 15 percent to explore and come up with ideas for potential projects.

This made me think of the Fast Company article about Google I read last week. Perhaps Google would benefit to use a 15 percent rule instead of just engouraging everyone to contribute new ideas?

I Googled for “15 percent” 3m and found two Wired articles titled The 15 Percent Solution and When The Future is Now, and a Software Development Magazine article, What Manufacturing Can Teach Software.

The above was posted to my personal weblog on June 24, 2002. My name is Peter Lindberg and I am a thirtysomething software developer and dad living in Stockholm, Sweden. Here, you’ll find posts in English and Swedish about whatever happens to interest me for the moment.
