Googleseed (cont’d)
bbum wonders why “Tseugen [sic!] is ranked higher than [his] weblog in the search [for ‘googleseed’].” Probably, it’s because I repeated the word while he only used it once. The Google PageRank for bbum is 5, while my PageRank is only 4. Normally, it’s the PageRank that determines the order of search hits, but Google apparently gives pages higher scores if words searched for are more frequently used. I also quite sure the page gets a higher score if the word occurs within the <TITLE> element. Perhaps they also increase the score if the word occurs between the elements <H1>, <H2>, etc.
(My PageRank actually was 5, but probably some site with a high PageRank once was in Google’s link index, but now has been purged. That is, it probably only made the temporary index, and not the permanent. For more about my findings about how Google works, see here – here – here – here – here – here – here – here – and, finally, here. I didn’t realise I had written so many entries about it.)
