Lost my backup
Awhile ago I reinstalled Mac OS X on my TiBook, after first having backed up stuff I wanted to keep to a FireWire disk I borrowed. This stuff I kept under /Temporary/Backup until I needed it.
Another thing I used /Temporary for was to uncompress stuff I have downloaded, and if I find it interesting I move it elsewhere in the file system. Yesterday I felt that the /Temporary folder had become too big, so I selected everything and hit delete.
This morning, I thought I’d check some notes I made when I was working on a book about test-driven development … which of course still resided in my backup directory, along with a lot of other stuff I really wanted to keep.
I thought it would be a good idea to keep it under /Temporary until I needed it – and upon needing something, my thought out strategy would be to move it elsewhere. Then my plan was to, after a couple of months, erase the things that still remained in Backup directory, since that stuff would be of less interest.
